The turning basin at the Rhine port of Kleinhüningen in Basel had to be dredged after shoals had formed as a result of sediment accumulation. Approximately 6,500 m3 of sediment had to be dredged from the turning basin and subsequently disposed of.
The dredged sediment was transported to the shore on barges and then put onto lorries.
The operation required careful planning to avoid obstructing the path of the ships entering and leaving the port. This involved, for example, the transhipment of fuel via a boom lift within the perimeter of the building site, which was occupied on certain days.
