The narrow quarry passage is located in the Simmenfluh region in the municipal territory of Wimmis/BE. At the quarry, excavators and wheel loaders are used to sort the material that has been blasted and the boulders are divided up into different weight categories and then stored. The remaining material (spoil) is then sent to the nearby gravel plant to be processed into the components: gravel sand I, gravel sand II and levelling material. The blasted stone material can be used either directly or indirectly. Depending on the amount of space available and the condition of the stone, the material (boulders) can also be refined on site using a “Hurde” or a crushing/sieving plant so that it can be sent directly to the place where it will be used/installed.
