Münsterhof is one of the largest and oldest squares in Zurich city centre. For years it was used as a car park. Since its rehabilitation, the square has been a vehicle-free zone and is now used for a range of different purposes. The sewer system and various utility pipes were also renewed, A broken-bond layout was used for the outer area of the square, whilst the inner section was given an arch pattern using Guberstein stones.
Some of the old Guberstein stones were relaid in the rehabilitated square. The stones that were in a reusable condition were sanded and mottled. An interesting fact: 30 archaeologists were involved in the excavation for the duration of the project.
